Why We Serve?
Many boys in Arkansas face challenges such as exposure to crime, limited mentorship, and a lack of safe spaces to grow. At Arkansas Storm, 92% of the youth we serve are youth of color, and more than half qualify for free or reduced lunch. Our approach is rooted in Sports-Based Youth Development (SBYD), designed to promote long-term wellness and leadership through athletics, academic support, and mentorship. By providing structured programs, mentorship, academic enrichment, athletic opportunities, and community engagement, we guide boys, especially those most at risk, toward positive choices and brighter futures.
Arkansas Storm Educational Sports Program (ASESP) promotes the well-being of boys, especially those at risk, by providing mentorship, academic enrichment, and structured basketball programs that build character, leadership, and life skills.
To empower boys, especially those at risk, to thrive physically, academically, and socially by providing guidance, education, and opportunities through mentorship and basketball, creating a foundation for lifelong success and positive community impact.

Did You Know? Alexis N. James, M.S. founded Arkansas Storm. While student teaching at Maumelle Middle School in the spring of 2021, she noticed a group of teenage boys who often complained that they had nothing to do. Director Lex used her $1,200 stimulus check to start mentoring the first Storm youth group, providing basketball, academic, and extracurricular activities.
